Carpet that stays flat
Most carpet problems are not carpet problems. They are installation problems that show up eighteen months later, when the carpet ripples in the hallway or the seam by the door starts to fuzz open.
Two things cause almost all of it. The carpet was stretched with a knee kicker instead of a power stretcher, or the seams were placed wherever the roll happened to end instead of where traffic and light would hide them.
We power-stretch every install. It takes longer. It is the reason the floor is still flat in year five.
What we install
Cut pile, loop, patterned, berber, and commercial carpet tile. If you have already picked a product from a showroom, bring us the spec sheet and we will install it. If you have not, we will tell you which products hold up in a house with dogs and kids and which only look good in the sample book.
Seams, and where we put them
A seam is a permanent decision. Before we cut anything, we walk the room and look at where the light comes from and where people walk. Seams go perpendicular to the main window when we can manage it, and out of the primary traffic path. In a hallway they run the length, never across.
You will know where the seams are because we will show you before we cut. You should not be able to find them afterward.
The subfloor comes first
We pull the old floor, haul it out, and look at what is underneath. Squeaks get screwed down. Soft spots get called out before we cover them up, not after. If the subfloor needs work, we tell you what it needs and what it costs before we proceed, and you decide.
